My monstera keeps getting new leaves but by the time they grow big enough they turn brown and die off. If you have a lot of leaf drop and crispy edges to the leaves look for spider mites.

In fact its thought that one of the reasons they develop splits and holes is to allow light to reach the lower leaves. As the plant matures the newer leaves will slowly have more and more fenestrations. The leaves are shapes like hearts and are solid when they first form but they quickly begin to sprout their famous holes and splits as the leaf gets bigger.
